Restaurants face untold challenges from every aspect in our post Covid world. From supply chain issues to labor shortages the restaurant industry can be a struggle. Even with these challenges the best of the best will always prevail. Grill lines and fry stations can wreak havoc on standard commercial kitchen floors. When planning your renovation or next location attention to detail is crucial when it comes to your flooring specification. This is another case where the term “epoxy floor” can prove disastrous! While epoxy floors are a great option for a seamless surface, the performance in constantly wet areas is not your long term solution. Sherwin Williams Fastop Urethane Mortar flooring is a great choice for your next kitchen project. This commercial kitchen was designed with heavy service in mind. We started by shot blasting the floor, then applying a 6” hand trowled cove base. Next we applied Sherwin Williams Fastop with a decorative quartz broadcast. Sherwin Williams Polyaspartic was then used as a chemical resistant finish coat. Polyaspartic is not only a durable topcoat, it’s UV stability will resist staining and yellowing over time.
Epoxy flooring has a long history dating back to the 1940s, when it was first developed for use in industrial settings such as factories and warehouses. The first epoxy flooring systems were basic, consisting of a single layer of epoxy applied to a concrete substrate.
Over time, advances in technology led to the development of more advanced epoxy flooring systems, such as multi-layer systems, self-leveling systems, and systems that incorporate decorative elements like chips or flakes.
Epoxy flooring became increasingly popular in commercial and industrial settings for its durability and chemical resistance. In the following decades it started to be used in a wide range of applications such as garages, retail stores, schools and hospitals.
In recent years, Epoxy flooring has become more popular in residential settings as well, mainly for garages and basements due to its durability and low maintenance.
